Central Philippine University Golden Lions preserves winning streak over Rizal Technological University

Central Philippine University Golden Lions fashioned out a thrilling 5-2 victory over Rizal Technological University on Wednesday in the third day of the 2nd Cebuana Lhuillier National Inter-Collegiate Softball Championships at the Sto. Nino Ballpark, Marikina City.

The game was a seesaw battle between the two teams. CPU Golden Lions Softbelles opened the first inning with a single by Ma. Diane Treyes. Ma. Kristine Gulfan then doubled via a fielding error from third baseman Piad that advanced Diane to third base. A sacrifice fly by Cristine Sebuan scored Diane for the first run. Rizal Technological University then changed the lead in the bottom of the second inning with two runs by RTU's pitcher Sharen Garcia and first baseman Huertas from two errors.

After a tight third to fifth innings, Central Philippine University Golden Lions finally took the lead in the sixth inning. The CPU Golden Lions scored on a two-run double by Geia Dechosa off Garcia, scoring Cristine Sebuan and Tweedle Gee Samson. Cristine racked up two RBIs on two hits for Central Philippine University, the last one plating Diane in the seventh inning. She singled in the sixth and seventh innings.

Jane Daras, once again, looked sharp on the mound and took the win for Central Philippine University. Rizal Technological University managed just three hits off of Daras, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during her five innings of work. Garcia was charged with the loss. She pitched for seven innings, walked one, struck out six, and allowed five runs.

Dechosa then closed and saved the game with a flawless outing on the mound in the sixth and seventh inning. She faced the last six batters of RTU in the last two innings and allowed no hits, no walks, and no runs.

Central Philippine University Scores Another Victory


Central Philippine University Golden Lions prevailed over Central Luzon State University, 7-2, on Tuesday in the 2nd Cebuana Lhuiller National Inter-Collegiate Softball Championships at the Sto. Nino Softball Field, Marikina City.

The Golden Lions Softbelles was led by a flawless day at the dish by Geia Dechosa, who went 3-3 against Central Luzon State University's pitching. She singled in the second, fifth, and seventh innings. She also brought the heat against CLSU when she pitched in the fifth until the seventh inning with no hits, no earned runs, walked none and struck out three to eran her second saved game.

Jane Daras got the win for Central Philippine University Golden Lions. Jane pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed one run. Creng Garcia took the loss for Central Luzon State University. She allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out one.

In the top of the second, the CPU Golden Lions grabbed the early lead, 1-0, when Herjea Faye Sinogbuhan plated Ma. Marriel Arnado from the third base with a sacrifice grounder. But Central Luzon State University quickly matched CPUs' strong inning with a run by Dequitos via an RBI single by Panabang.

However, when both teams were thought to be in a tight contest, the Golden Lions Softbelles scored three runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Tweedle Gee Samson, a sacrifice fly by Geia, and an RBI single by Mariel Arnado.

Central Philippine University Golden Lions added two more runs in the top of the fifth with Ma. Kristin Gulfan's triple, plating Ma. Diane Treyes. One run in the bottom of the fifth helped Central Luzon State University close its deficit to 6-2. But the Golden Lions closed the door for CLSU when Ferly Joy Pagulong, pinched running for Rhea Sevilla on the third base, was plated by Herjea Faye Sinogbuhan via a sacrifice fly. Finally, Geia closed the game with three quick outs on three CLSU batters.

Central Philippine University Golden Lions Softbelles hang on against National University Bulldogs, 3-1

The National University Bulldogs was never able to get over the hump and overcome its troubles against Central Philippine University Golden Lions on Monday, October 21, as National University fell 3-1 during the start of the 2nd Cebuana Lhuillier National Intercollegiate Invitational Softball Championships at Sto. Nino Softball Field, Marikina City after falling behind by three runs in the second inning.

Third baseman Vallestero of the National University scored one run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Damasing. Still, National University couldn't draw even.

Geia Dechosa worked out of nine tough situations for Central Philippine University Golden Lions. She pitched in the middle of the fifth inning after starting pitcher Jane Daras loaded all the bases with no outs. Though faced with her trickiest spot, Geia managed to end the inning with three successive outs on two strike outs and no runs from the three NU base runners. She closed and saved the game with four stike outs, and no earned runs allowed on just one hit.

Jane Daras, on the other hand, recorded the win for Central Philippine University Golden Lions. She allowed one run over four innings. Jane struck out two, walked two and gave up no hits.The game's last lead went to Central Philippine University Golden Lions thanks to a first inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on two doubles.
